Do you miss Sonja Heine?

In case you are wondering why you should miss Sonja Heine, hold fire, it’s a title of a movie.

Back in 1971, Slovene director Karpo Godina waited for seven of the most prominent and controversial directors & writers attending the Belgrade Film festival (FEST) to arrive at the hotel. As Miloš Forman, Paul Morrissey, Tinto Brass, Buck Henry, Dušan Makavejev and Frederick Wiseman stepped into the reception, Godina handed out a one-page script and asked them to participate in an experimental “I Miss Sonja Henie” movie.

The rules were simple: each of them had to make a 3 minutes segment set in one room and with the camera in a single position. No changing of lenses, framing, angle or position would be allowed, though props could be different from scene to scene (and you thought that Dogma was strict??). Last but not least, someone had to say “I Miss Sonja Henie”  - which is not a reference to the nazi-supporting Norwegian ice skating Olympic star turned into Hollywood diva but it’s actually a quote from Charles Schulzt’s Peanuts.

To celebrate the 2012 edition of FEST, Playboy Serbia asked BECHA to create an illustration to represent what is considered a cult film for Serbian art house movie culture. “I wanted to refresh the visuals from ‘70” BECHA says about the creative direction for the image; “one of the characteristics of this I MISS SONJA HENIE project is spontaneity so I wanted to preserve it in my approach. This is celebration of the film and the power and creative strength that lies in it.”

BECHA’s “I miss Sonja Heine” illustration is the first of a year collaboration with Playboy Serbia. When asked about the collaboration BECHA said that she “was very happy when they contact me because their old editions and that vintage feel are one of my biggest inspirations. It’s a great pleasure working for magazine with that tradition and reputation.”
