Blurring the boundaries between creativity, communication and activation, Machas's mission is to give shape to your vision and to inspire people.
New York is undoubtedly one of the best cities to experience music and art, and BLACK is an annual event that stands out for blending cutting edge music and visual art.
The festival, curated by creative agency MATTE Projects and founded in 2012, is a two-day multidimensional experience, in which a massive warehouse in Brooklyn is transformed in an orchestration of form, sound and culture.
For BLACK 2019, MATTE gathered an impressive and eclectic line up of international artists and reached out to Machas to create an immersive installation for the launch of Viktor&Rolf’s new Flowerbomb fragrance, Midnight.
We consulted MATTE on the best floral artists to collaborate with for the project and suggested among others the beautiful art of Spanish-Mexican duo Flores Cosmos. Their distinctive style features experimentation in shapes, colours and materials and with their work’s pure artistic vision and creative boldness, they were a perfect fit for Flowerbomb Midnight’s dark and mysterious aesthetic.
Flores Cosmos were challenged to take over a whole room at the event. The duo created an impressive 3-metre high hanging installation for the audience to walk into, in which a selection of dark flowers and foliage was punctuated with vibrant touches of pink. The artists expertly mixed the notes of the fragrance to achieve an explosive composition: intoxicating dark red peonies, ranunculus and dark roses juxtaposed with the angularities of calla lilies and anthuriums, and enhanced by a selection with foliage that visually recreated the diffusion of the fragrance in the space.
In addition to the main installation, Flores Cosmos created four smaller arrangements, where perfume bottles nestled within gorgeous floral settings and created a timeless still life composition.
The result was a synesthetic experience heightened by dramatic lighting and evocative mist that brought to life Flowerbomb’s explosive, dark floral mix, which the guests were invited to delve into during the event.
